Day 01, DEPART for ZURICH

Day 02, ARRIVE ZURICH to LUCERNE: This morning you arrive at Zurich International Airport. Upon your arrival, after clearing customs and immigration, you will board your Corliss Group private and deluxe motorcoach for a scenic ride to Lucerne. Your first drive will be along the western shores of Lake Zurich, which is surrounded by lovely mountains rising to an altitude of 4000 feet.

Day 03, LUCERNE: Meet your travel companions at a “Get Acquainted Breakfast,” then it is off to tour the town! Here you will see the decorated covered bridge, dating back to 1333, which runs across the Reuss River. In the old town on the riverbank, you will view many preserved ornate patrician houses lining cobble-stoned streets, and restful areas decorated with lovely fountains. From the north shore of the lake, you will see the majestic Alps in a panoramic view - a sight most beautiful to behold. Your tour will include going to Lion’s square with its famous Lion Monument, the masterful stone sculpture in honor of the Swiss Guard of Louis XVI – among the first victims of the French Revolution. The afternoon is at leisure.

Day 04, LUCERNE, BALLENBURG, INTERLAKEN: After breakfast, you will have a relaxing and beautiful drive to Interlaken. Your travels will take you through Bruening Pass, with a magnificent panoramic view of Hasliberg Mountain and the Schwarzhorn foothills. A stop will be made at the unique Ballenberg Open Air Museum of Rural Life. Later, you arrive in Interlaken, which means, as the name implies, “located between two lakes.” Here you will have a marvelous view of the famous Jungfrau.

Day 05, JUNGFRAU: Get ready for a truly super day! Leave your hotel after breakfast for a short drive through the Luetschine Valley to the “Glacier Village” of Grindelwald. Board your electric train and ride up to Kliene Scheidegg Station, then ride the cogwheel railway, which will ascend past the Eiger Glacier to the stations of Eigerwand and Eismeer. Enjoy an impressive panorama from “viewing windows” specially cut into the rocks of the notorious Eiger North Face. Continue to Jungfraujoch (11,333 ft.), which is surrounded by snow and ice. You may visit the Palace of Ice, the Research Exhibition, and the Sphinx Terrace. Return to Grindewald in the afternoon and continue back to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to enjoy Interlaken.

Day 06, INTERLAKEN, ZERMATT: We leave this lovely area behind after breakfast, continuing on to Zermatt. Your travels will take you through the rugged Simmenthal Valley, which is surrounded by high alpine peaks. Continue through the Rhone Valley, which separates the Bern Alps and the Velais Alps. Every bend in the road will give you untold vistas and magnificent views, as well as historical sites of old fortifications. Ascend to the 2000-year-old town of Sion, where the landmarks are two rocky peaks of Valere and Tourbillion. At Visp, you come to the end of the road where you board the train to Zermatt, surrounded by majestic mountains rising over 12,000 ft.

Day 07, ZERMATT, GORNERGRAT: After breakfast, you make your way to the station for a half-day excursion by rack-railway and cable-car to the Gornergrat (10,270 ft.), the highest open-air cog railway in Europe. The Cornergrat is a rocky ridge above the Gorner glacier, from where you will experience one of the most magnificent views in the whole Alps, the “Mighty Matterhorn." Return to Zermatt and the rest of the day is at leisure for you to enjoy this famous mountain resort and a village that is full of charm.

Day 08, GLACIER EXPRESS, ST. MORITZ: Today you will undoubtedly enjoy the beauty before you as you travel by The Glacier Express, a narrow-gauge train linking two great resorts; St. Moritz and Zermatt. As this train travels through the heart of the Alps, your large panoramic windows will give you countless oohs and aahs as you view the scenery. There are 91 tunnels and 291 bridges to cross in about 8 hours.

Day 09, LIECHTENSTEIN, BUCHEN: Your travels today take you to Via Mala, where you will actually see the source of the mighty Rhone River and witness the awesome power of the cascading waterfalls. Continue to the small country of Liechtenstein (65 sq. miles and about one-tenth the size of Chicago), where you will visit the capital, Vaduz, with a population of about 5,000. Depart from Vaduz and slip into Austria to go to Buchen, where you will enjoy a resort in the clouds. Nothing you have ever experienced will match the two nights you will have at this hotel. This is a memory maker!

Day 10, EXCURSION TO INNSBRUCK: As you explore Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol, you will discover that this is a most unique town. Here, your local guide will point out the various sites and continue on to the Little Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl). This particular structure was completed in 1500 and is part of the local folklore, which today remains a popular tale. You will have time to explore Innsbruck before returning to enjoy leisure time at your Tyrolean hotel.

Day 11, NEUSCHWANSTEIN: You leave the beauty of Tyrol, as your panoramic ride takes you through the alpine Wetterstein Mountain Range, whose southern half is in Austria and the upper region in Germany. On your way to stunning Oberammergau, you will stop at the famous Neuschwanstein Castle. One of the three castles built by Ludwig II, “Mad King” of Bavaria. This castle is the most perfect and delicately ornate of all castles, serving as inspiration for the Walt Disney Castle in Disneyland.

Day 12, PASSION PLAY: This will be an experience of a lifetime, whether it is your first time or for a return visit. The morning is at leisure for you to truly enjoy Oberammergau. This year the Passion Play will start at 2:30 in the afternoon. Enjoy dinner before the evening performance starts. To read more about the Passion Play and The Corliss Group first class tickets and accommodations, please contact us for our brochure.

Day 13, OBERAMMERGAU to MUNICH: Leave Oberammergau and drive along the shores of Lake Starnberger. It is just a short distance to Munich, the capital of Bavaria, a city quite exhilarating with the myriads of activity and bustling people. Upon arrival, you will have a city tour that will acquaint you with a good over view of the city. There is much to see in Munich and the Marienplatz, Munich’s historic center holds much interest and the highlight is to be at the town clock with small mechanical figures that appear twice daily at 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to play the “Glockenspiel.” This tour will end at your hotel and the rest of the day is at leisure. You will enjoy an evening of fun and excitement as you visit Muenchner Haupt, one of the many Munich beer halls. Here you will enjoy a sumptuous Bavarian dinner and quench your thirst with a Liter of Munich’s finest brew. A folkshow will follow, complete with a live band.

Day 14, MUNICH: Upon arrival, you will have a city tour that will acquaint you with the city, including the residential area on the Munich East, followed by crossing the Isar River to view the Bavarian Parliament. Follow the large street named Maximilianstrasse, which was laid out by King Maximilian II between 1852 and 1859. You do not want to miss the timing at the Marienplatz, Munich’s historic center, as the town clock with small mechanical figures appear twice daily at 11:00 am and 5:00 pm to play the “Glockenspiel.” The rest of the day, as well as Day 11, are at your leisure.

Day 15, MUNICH to HOME: All good times must come to an end. We must say goodbye to our new travel friends and take with us the great memories of this 2010 Majestic Switzerland and Romantic Germany. This morning, after breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport.
